This young persons direct access hostel represented a challenge to the team to create a welcoming environment and a safe and friendly home.
Originally built in the 1980’s, the hostel required major updating. We were sensitive to the support the residents need with their daily living skills to help develop their emotional wellbeing and confidence. The new scheme also had to stand up to the wear and tear of a changing group of residents.
Working under a JCT Intermediate contract Boulter Mossman designed a new layout and supervised the refurbishment of 20 single bedrooms with shared bathrooms and kitchens, plus staff and office accommodation and two disabled units, refreshing the spaces to suit the 16-25 year olds who will live here.
